【原文】

曾子曰：「慎終，追遠，民德歸厚矣。」

【英文】

Zeng Zi said, “Conduct the Funeral of your parents with meticulous care and let not sacrifices to your remoteancestors be forgotten, and the virtue of the common people will incline towards fullness.

【翻譯】

曾子說：謹慎地辦理父母的喪事，虔誠地追念祭祀祖先，這樣做就可以使老百姓的道德風俗歸于純樸厚道了。

【注釋】

（1）重，莊重。

（2）威，威嚴。

（3）固，堅固。

（4）主忠信，親近忠信的人。

（5）無友不如己，謂與不如己者為友，無益有損。

（6）憚，畏難。

【主旨】為事之道，為人之道。
