【原文】

祭如在（1），祭神（2）如神在。子曰：「吾不與（3）祭，如不祭。」

【英文】

“Sacrifice as if present” is taken to mean “sacrifice to the gods as if the gods were present.” The Master, however, said, “Unless I enter into the spirit of a sacrifice, it is as if I did not sacrifice.”

【注釋】

（1）祭如在，言祭祖先，必致其敬，如其親存，言事死如事生也。祭，祭先祖。

（2）祭神，祭百神也。

（3）與，參與。

【翻譯】

祭祖先的時候，就好向祖先在上受祭，祭神的時候就好像神在上受祭一樣。孔子說：「我若不能親自參加祭祀，雖然有人代我祭了，我也好像未曾祭祀過一樣。」

【主旨】儀禮之執行與真實，禮作為儀禮時（祭祀）其執行之偽與真實：郊禮。
