【原文】

子曰：「君子（1）懷德（2），小人（3）懷土（4）；君子懷刑（5），小人懷惠（6）。」

【英文】

The Master said, “While the gentleman cherishes benign rule, the small man cherishes his native land. While the gentleman cherishes a respect for the law, th small man cherishes generous treatment.”

【注釋】

（1）君子，有道德修養的人。

（2）懷德，懷，思念。德，道德。

（3）小人，沒有道德修養的人。

（4）土，田產。

（5）刑，法度。

（6）惠，恩惠。

【翻譯】

孔子說：「君子心怀道德，小人卻一心想著自己的田土；君子心怀法度，小人卻一心貪圖實惠。」

【主旨】君子與其存在，君子面對自己之存在與成就，君子之心懷。
