【原文】

子曰：「如有周公之才之美（1），使驕且吝（2），其餘不足觀也已。」

【英文】

The Master said, “Even with a man as gifted as the Duke of Zhou, were he arrogant and miserly, then the rest of his qualities would not be worthy ofadmiration.”

【注釋】

（1）才之美，謂智能技藝之美。

（2）驕且吝，驕，驕傲。吝，吝嗇。

【翻譯】

孔子說：「如果有人像周公那樣具有美好的才能和技藝，而他卻驕傲和吝嗇，即使還有其他的才能，也就不值得一看了。」

【主旨】人從對象言之德行，有才而不驕之德。
