【原文】

子曰：「狂而不直（1），侗（2）而不愿（3），悾悾（4）而不信，吾不知之矣。」

【英文】

The Master said, “Men who rejectdiscipline and yet are not straight, men who are ignorant and yet not cautious, men who are devoid ofability and yet not trustworthy are quitebeyond my understanding.”

【注釋】

（1）狂而不直，狂妄而不率直。

（2）侗，無知。

（3）愿，謹厚；忠厚。

（4）悾悾，無能貌。

【翻譯】

孔子說：「狂妄而不率直，無知而不忠厚，無能而不守信，這種人我不知道他將怎麼辦！」

【主旨】人從對象言之德行，情性之德。
