【原文】

仲弓問「仁」。子曰：「出門如見大賓（1）；使民如承（2）大祭（3）；己所不欲，勿施於人（4）；在邦（5）無怨，在家（6）無怨。」仲弓曰：「雍雖不敏，請事斯語矣！」

【英文】

Zhong-gong asked about benevolence. The Master said, “When abroad behave as though you were receiving an important guest. When employing the services of the common people behave as though you were officiating at an important sacrifice. Do not impose on others what you yourself do not desire. In this way you will be free from ill will whether in a state or in a noble family.”

Zhong-gong said, “Though I am not quick, I shall direct my efforts towards what you have said.”

【注釋】

（1）大賓，公侯之賓。

（2）承，承奉，承當。

（3）大祭，指郊禘之祭。

（4）己所不欲，勿施於人，謂己所不欲之事，物施於他人。即恕道，盡己之謂忠，推己及人之謂恕。

（5）在邦，在諸侯之國。

（6）在家，在卿、大夫之家。

【翻譯】

仲弓問怎樣去實踐仁德。孔子說：「出門工作要像會見貴賓一樣，役使民力要像承擔重大祭祀一樣。自己所不喜歡的事物，不要強加在別人的身上。這樣仕於諸侯邦國沒有人怨恨，仕於卿、大夫的家也沒有人怨恨。」仲弓說：「冉雍雖然魯鈍，願照這些話去做。」

【主旨】實踐仁德，在敬以持己，恕以及物，則私意無所容而心德全矣。
