【原文】

子謂衛公子荊（1）善居屋（2）：「始有，曰：『苟合（3）矣；』少有，曰：『苟完矣；』富有，曰：『苟美矣。』」

【英文】

The Master said about Prince Jing of Wei that he showed a laudable attitude towards a house as a place to live in. When he first had a house, he said, “It is more or less adequate.” When he had extended it somewhat, he said, “It has more or less everything.” When it had become sumptuous, he said, “It is more or less grand enough.”

【注釋】

（1）衛公子荊，衛大夫。

（2）善居屋，善治理家業。

（3）苟合，近於夠用；差不多夠用。合，足夠。

【翻譯】

孔子評論衛國的公子荊說：「他善於治理家業。家中剛剛有一點財產，他便說：『差不多夠了。』稍稍增加一點時，他便說：『差不多完備 了。』富有以後，便說：『差不多美滿了。』」

【主旨】衛公子荊有知足之美德。
