【原文】

子適（1）衛，冉有僕（2）。子曰：「庶（3）矣哉！」冉有曰：「既庶矣，又何加焉？」曰：「富之。」曰：「既富矣，又何加焉？」曰：「教之。」

【英文】

When the Master went to Wei, Ran You drove for him. The Master said, “What a teeming population!”

Ran You said, “When the population is teeming, what further benefit can one add?”

“Improve their circumstances.”

“When their circumstances have been improved, what further benefit can one add?”

“Educate them.”

【注釋】

（1）適，往。

（2）僕，駕車。

（3）庶，眾多，指人口眾多。

【翻譯】

孔子前往衛國，冉有替他駕車。孔子說：「衛國的人口眾多啊！」冉有問：「人口多了，進一步要做什麼呢？」孔子說：「使人民富裕起來。」冉有又問：「人民富裕了，進一步要做什麼呢？」孔子說：「教育他們。」

【主旨】言治民之法。
