【原文】

子夏為莒父（1）宰，問政。子曰：「無欲速（2）；無見小利（3）。欲速則不達；見小利則大事不成。」

【英文】

On becoming prefect of Ju Fu, Zi-xia asked about government. The Master said, “Do not be impatient. Do not see only petty gains. If you are impatient, you will not reach your goal. If you see only petty gains, the great tasks will not be accomplished.”

【注釋】

（1）莒父，魯國邑名。

（2）欲速，欲事之速成，則急遽無序。

（3）見小利，見當前之小利。

【翻譯】

子夏做了莒父邑宰，問孔子該怎樣治理政事。孔子說：「不要求速成，不要只看到小利。求速就不能達成任務，只看到小利就不能成大事。」

【主旨】為政宜依次而進，不宜貪圖小利。
