【原文】
子言衛靈公之無道也,康子曰:「夫如是,奚而不喪(1)?」孔子曰:「仲叔圉(2)治賓客,祝鮀治宗廟,王孫賈治軍旅;夫如是,奚其喪?」
【英文】
When the Master spoke of the total lack of moral principle on the part of Duke Ling of Wei, Kang Zi commented, “That being the case, how is it he did not lose his state?”
Confucius said, “Zhong-shu Yu was responsible for foreign visitors, Priest Tuo for the ancestral temple and Wang-sun Jia for military affairs. That being the case, why should he have lost his state?”
【注釋】
(1)奚而不喪,為何不失位。
(2)仲叔圉,即孔文子,衛之賢臣。
【翻譯】
孔子談論衛靈公的昏亂。季康子說:「既然如此,他為什麼沒有喪失君位呢?」孔子說:「他用仲叔圉主管外交,祝鮀主管祭祀,王孫賈統帥軍隊。像這樣善用人,他怎麼會喪失君位呢?」
【主旨】治國在任用賢才。
