【原文】

公叔文子（1）之臣大夫僎（2），與文子同升諸公（3）。子聞之曰：「可以為『文（4）』矣！」

【英文】

Counsellor Zhuan who had been an official in the household of Gong-shu Wen-zi was promoted to high office in the state, serving side by side with Gong-shu Wen-zi. On hearing of this, the Master commented, “Gong-shu Wen-zi deserved to be accorded the epithet ‘wen’.”

【注釋】

（1）公叔文子，衛大夫公孫拔。諡文。

（2）僎，本為公孫拔之家臣，名僎。

（3）升諸公，謂進於公朝為臣。公，公朝；諸侯的朝庭。

（4）文，《諡法》：「錫民爵位曰文。」

【翻譯】

公叔文子的家臣大夫僎，由文子推薦，與文子同升為公朝的臣子。孔子聽到這事後，說：「可以被諡為『文』。」

【主旨】論衛大夫公孫拔之德。
