【原文】

師冕（1）見。及階，子曰：「階也！」及席（2），子曰：「席也！」皆坐，子告之曰：「某在斯（3）！某在斯！」師冕出，子張問曰：「與師言之道與？」子曰：「然，固相（4）師之道也。」

【英文】

Mian, the Master Musician, called. When he came to the steps, the Master said, “You have reached the steps, “ and when he came to the mat, the Master said, “You have reached the mat.” When everyone was seated, the Master told him, “This is So-and-so here and that is So-and-so over there.”

After the Master Musician had gone, Zi-zhang asked, “Is that the way to talk to a musician?” The Master said, “Yes. That is the way to assist a musician.”

【注釋】

（1）師冕，師，樂師，古樂師皆盲者。冕，樂師名。

（2）席，座位。

（3）某在斯，言歷舉在做之人以告之。

（4）相，扶導。

【翻譯】

師冕來見孔子。走到臺階前，孔子說：「這裡是臺階。」走到坐位前，孔子說：「這裡是坐位。」大家坐定後，孔子告訴他說：「某人在這兒，某人在這兒。」師冕出去後，子張問：「跟樂師談話的方式就是這樣嗎？」孔子說：「對的，這就是扶助引導樂師的方式了。」

【主旨】言扶助引導樂官之道。
