【原文】

 

子貢曰：「君子之過也，如日月之食（1）焉。過也，人皆見之；更（2）也，人皆仰（3）之。」

【英文】

Zi-gong said, “The gentleman’s errors are like an eclipse of the sun and the moon in that when he errs the whole world sees it and when he reforms the whole world looks up to it.”

 

【注釋】

（1）食，同「蝕」。蝕虧。

（2）更，改也。

（3）仰，仰望。

【翻譯】

子貢說：「君子的過失，好比日蝕月蝕一樣。有了過錯，誰都能看見；他改過了，人人都仰望著。」

【主旨】言君子之過，似日月之食。
