【原文】

子曰：「臧文仲（1）居蔡（2），山節藻梲（3），何如其知也？」

【英文】

The Master said, “When housing his giant tortoise, Zang Wen-zhong had the capitals of the pillars carved in the shape of hills and the rafterposts painted in a duckweed design. What is one to think of his intelligence?”

【注釋】

（1）臧文仲，姓臧孫名辰，字仲諡為文；魯大夫。

（2）居蔡，蓋為藏大龜之室。居，藏。蔡，大龜。大龜為國君所藏，以供卜吉凶之用，大夫用歸之小者。

（3）山節藻梲，言刻山於節，畫藻於梲，天子之廟飾。節，柱頭之斗栱。梲，樑上短柱。

【翻譯】

孔子說：「臧文仲建築一間房屋，以藏大龜，注頭上的斗拱刻有山形，樑上的短柱畫有水藻，他的聰明怎麼會這樣呢？」

【主旨】智之真偽，對對象之智，處理環境處境之智。
