【原文】

子畏（1）於匡（2）。曰：「文王既沒，文（3）不在茲乎。天之章喪斯文也。後死者（4）不得與（5）於斯文也。天之未喪斯文也。匡人其如予何。」

【英文】

When the Master met with danger in Kuang, he said, “With King Wen dead, is not culture (wen) invested here in me? If Heaven intends culture to be destroyed, those who come after me will not be able to have any part of it. If Heaven does not intend this culture to be destroyed, then what can the men of Kuang do to me?”

【注釋】

（1）畏，畏懼。

（2）匡，地名，陽虎曾暴於匡，孔子貌似陽虎，固匡人圍之。

（3）文，指禮樂、法度、教化之跡。猶今所謂傳統文化。

（4）後死者，孔子自指。

（5）與，參與。

【翻譯】

孔子在匡被群眾圍困，受到一場虛驚。他說：「文王死後，文化傳統不是都在我這裡嗎？如果上天要滅亡這種文化傳統，那麼我這後死的人，就不會參與擔負這一文化傳統了。如果上天不想滅亡這種文化傳統，匡人又能把我怎樣呢？」

【主旨】論在現實存在中之無我，自我之無我，客觀成就與存在。
