【原文】

子曰：「回也其庶（1）乎！屢空（2）；賜不受命（3），而貨殖（4）焉；億（5）則屢中。」

【英文】

The Master said, “Hui is perhaps difficult to improve upon; he allows himself constantly to be in dire poverty. Ci refuses to accept his lot and indulges in moneymaking and is frequently right in his conjectures.”

【注釋】

（1）庶，近，庶幾。言幾近於聖道。

（2）屢空，屢至於窮乏。

（3）不受命，言不受祿。

（4）貨殖，貨財生殖。猶今做生意。

（5）億，猜度。

【翻譯】

孔子說：「顏回的學問道德都差不多近於聖道了，可惜經常那麼窮困。子貢不做官而去做生意，猜測物價行情，每每都能猜中。」
