【原文】

曾子曰：「吾聞諸夫子：『人未有自致者也，必也親喪乎。』」

【英文】

Zeng Zi said, “I have heard the Master say that on no occasion does a man realize himself to the full, though, when pressed, he said that mourning for one’s parents may be an exception.”

【注釋】

【翻譯】

曾子說：「我聽老師說過：『人在平常沒有可能自動的表露真情，如果有的話，一定是在父母死亡的時候。』」

【主旨】言人未能自致其真情，至於親喪，必自致盡。
