【原文】

叔孫武叔毀仲尼。子貢曰：「無以為也（1）！仲尼不可毀也。他人之賢者，丘陵也，猶可踰（2）也；仲尼，日月也，無得而踰焉。人雖欲自絕（3），其何傷於日月乎？多見其不知量（4）也。」

【英文】

Shu-sun Wu-shu made defamatory remarks about Zhong-ni. Zi-gong said, “He is simply wasting his time. Zhong-ni cannot be defamed. In other cases, men of excellence are like hills which one can climb over. Zhong-ni is like the sun and the moon which one has no way of climbing over. Even if someone wanted to cut himself off from them, how could this detract from the sun and the moon? It would merely serve to show that he did not know his own measure.”

【注釋】

（1）無以為也，猶言無用為此。

（2）踰，跨越，超越。

（3）自絕，自絕棄於日月。

（4）不知量，言不自知其分量。

【翻譯】

叔孫武叔毀謗仲尼。子貢說：「這樣做是沒有用的！仲尼是不可以毀謗的。別人的賢能，就像丘陵一樣，還可以超越過去；仲尼的賢德，就好比太陽月亮，無法逾越他的。一個人雖然想要絕棄太陽月亮，這對太陽月亮有什麼損害呢？只是顯得他不知道自己的分量罷了。」

【主旨】記子貢美孔子之德。
